I totally understand why video game developers stopped doing it, but I still kind of miss the era where the contents of the box were considered to be part of the game, and you’d be given this big stack of pamphlets and postcards and letters and other in-character documents, effectively presenting a self contained mini-ARG where figuring out how to make progress depended on your ability to puzzle out the significance of all the junk that came in the box.
